Tri Chloro Ethylene (TCE)

Trichloro Ethylene (TCE) is a widely used chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent known for its excellent degreasing and cleaning properties. It is a clear, non-flammable liquid with a mild sweet odor and chemical formula C₂HCl₃. TCE is extensively used in various industrial solvent applications and should not be confused with 1,1,1-trichloroethane.

Trichloroethylene solvent is highly effective in dissolving organic compounds, oils, and greases. It has been widely used since the 1920s across industries for metal cleaning, extraction processes, and chemical manufacturing. It is also used in oil extraction from plant materials such as soy, coconut, and palm, as well as in coffee decaffeination and flavor extraction.

Historically, TCE was used as an inhalation anesthetic before being replaced by safer alternatives. Today, it is primarily used as an industrial degreasing solvent and in the production of refrigerants and chemical intermediates.

Uses:

  • 1. We supply Trichloro Ethylene (TCE) as a key industrial raw material used in dry cleaning, metal degreasing, and solvent cleaning processes. More than 80% of TCE is used for removing grease from metal components. It is also widely used in adhesives, paint removers, correction fluids, and spot removers, as well as in the manufacturing of fluorocarbon refrigerants.
  • 2. TCE is essential in industries such as electroplating, steel manufacturing, machinery repair, pulp & paper, rubber, and semiconductor manufacturing. It is used for cold cleaning, vapor degreasing, and de-inking processes, ensuring high efficiency and precision cleaning.

Advantages:

  • 1. High boiling point (87°C) and low flammability make TCE a safe and effective industrial solvent with excellent cleaning efficiency.
  • 2. Used as a chemical intermediate in PVC production and as a feedstock for hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants.
  • 3. Suitable for non-flammable adhesive formulations and low-temperature heat transfer applications.
  • 4. Safety Note: Trichloro Ethylene (TCE) is a toxic chemical and must be handled with care. Exposure may affect the nervous system, liver, kidneys, and respiratory system. Always follow proper MSDS safety guidelines during handling and storage.
